| Frequently Asked Questions
Which Sunday service should I attend?
Choose between a smaller, more informal worship service at 8:15 a.m. and a more
traditional service at 10:15 a.m.
What should I wear?
The choice is yours - you'll find congregation members in a range of
clothing styles - from
jeans
and
khakis to skirts and suits.
Can I bring my young children to the worship service?
Yes!
Your children are welcome to be with you during the worship service, or you
can choose to have
them
cared
for by
our
professionally
trained
nursery
staff (for children ages
birth
to 5 years). After the children’s message at the beginning of the 10:15 worship service, the 3-8 year olds are
invited to go with our volunteers for Children’s Church
activities in the fellowship hall.
Will communion be celebrated?
As Christian Church (Disciples
of Christ) followers, we
celebrate communion each Sunday. All who
are believers are welcome as guests of our Lord Jesus to participate in the
Communion Table.
If illness or special needs keep you from receiving
Communion during a worship service, please contact the church and an elder will
be happy to bring Communion to you at your home or place of care.
Are there Sunday School classes?
We offer Sunday School classes for
all ages at 9:00 each Sunday morning.
Are there devices available to aid
people who are hearing
or visually impaired?
Yes, you may ask for a hearing device or large print hymnals
at the sound desk just inside the sanctuary doors.
Is the church handicapped accessible?
Yes. There are no stairs in the building, and you are welcome
to be let off at the overhang at the front doors. Wheelchairs and
walkers are available for use in the
entryway. The
bathrooms
are also accessible.
How does your church baptize? What if I was baptized as an
infant?
We baptize by immersion, but there is no requirement for
re-baptism in our denomination. If you have been baptized in another
denomination, we welcome you into our congregation as a baptized member of
the body of Christ.
We encourage our young people to be baptized after making a
confession of faith around age 10-12. Adults who have not been baptized can
indicate a desire for baptism by contacting the pastor. Babies and young children
are dedicated at special services throughout the year. The dedication is a
pledge between the congregation and
the parents to raise their child in a Christian environment.
What does your church believe?
The Christian Church (Disciples
of Christ) is the oldest and
largest Protestant denomination founded in the United
States. We believe that the
New Testament of the Bible, particularly the life and teaching of Jesus, form
the
basis of our Christian faith. We respect diversity of thought but have always
been Bible-based. Every Sunday our worship service is developed around
a
particular scripture text. We look at what it says to us individually and to
our congregation as a whole.
Do you have music opportunities for a variety of ages and
music styles?
Yes, we have a chancel choir and children’s choirs for a
variety of ages. We also have a bell choir. We are always looking to add more
singing and instrumental groups. If you like to sing or play and instrument, we’d
love to have your talents.
What if I want to be involved in service in the community or
beyond?
We have a great number of outreach activities that occur
throughout the year.
What kinds of social or study groups do you have?
We have monthly noon potlucks
with study at the church, Bible study both
during the week and in adult Sunday
School classes, and a number of men and women's fellowship and special interest
groups. Learn more about ways you can get involved.
