Pastor's Message
This morning I sit down for my time of meditation and turned to
Psalm 116. The words of this psalm are written by a very faithful
person of God. The person must have been weary from life’s
journey as he sorted out his thoughts before God. The words he shares
with God present hope to people who feel they are at the end of
their rope and feel as hopeless as you can feel. These words are
for the person in the midst of the storms of this season or the
emotional stresses of life.
This is a perfect psalm for God’s people who can find no other
direction to turn. The God that is talked about in this psalm is
gracious and open to everyone. Not a single person has stumbled
and made so many mistakes that God would forget them. This God of
creation is the center of compassion and understanding. This God
is the one who can help the most fatigued and lost who do not feel
there is anything left to help themselves let alone someone else.
Those of you, who are weary, take these words of the psalmist into
your soul…
I love God because God listens as we begged for mercy…
God is gracious—it is God who makes things right,
our most compassionate God.
God takes the side of the helpless;
when we are at the end of our rope, God saves us.
Relax… and rest….
God has showers us with blessings.
Soul, you’ve been rescued from death;
Eye, you’ve been rescued from tears;
And you, Foot, were kept from stumbling.
(Paraphrased from “The Message”)
The psalmist reminds us that God loves all creation. God’s
love transcends all the barriers that we can think of to create
(race, faith, ethnic, handicaps, economic, education, social). This
day I lift the cup of salvation—a toast to God! I will share
God’s love with all I meet and pray to God in all the moments
of lost and worn out feelings. I pray each of you, no matter the
condition of your day, will find peace and renewal in God’s
grace and healing.
