Visiting us for the first time? Here’s what to expect:
Which Sunday service should I attend?
Choose between a smaller, more informal worship service at 8:15 a.m. and a more traditional service at 10:15 a.m.
What should I wear?
The choice is yours. You’ll find congregation members in a range of clothing styles – from jeans and khakis to skirts and suits.
Can I bring my kids to the worship service?
Yes! Your children are welcome to be with you during the worship service, or you can choose to have them cared for by our professionally trained nursery staff (for children ages birth to 6 years). After the children’s message at the beginning of the 10:15 worship service, the children are invited to sit with their families or head to the nursery.
Will communion be celebrated?
As Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) followers, we celebrate communion each Sunday. All who are believers are welcome as guests of our Lord Jesus to participate in the Communion Table.
If illness or special needs keep you from receiving Communion during a worship service, please contact the church and an elder will be happy to bring Communion to you at your home or place of care.
Gluten Free communion wafers are available at the sound desk just inside the sanctuary doors. Please ask for a wafer if you need it!
Are there Sunday School classes?
We offer Sunday School classes for children, preschool through 12th grade during the school year.
Are there devices available to aid people who are hearing or visually impaired?
Yes, you may ask for a hearing device or large print hymnals at the sound desk just inside the sanctuary doors.
Is the church handicapped accessible?
Yes. There are no stairs in the building, and you are welcome to be let off at the overhang at the front doors. Wheelchairs and walkers are available for use in the entryway. The bathrooms are also accessible.
We are located in the heart of Altoona, Iowa just a stone’s throw from metro Des Moines. Our sanctuary is built on 1st Avenue South between Iron Wood Apartments and Clay Elementary School. Prairie Vista Village is across the street.
